Munich is the capital city of the Free State of Bavaria. With a population of 1.4 million inhabitants it is the third largest city in Germany.

Geographical position

Munich is located in the southeast of Germany along the foot of the Alps at a height of about 580m above sea level. The river Isar flows through most parts of the city of Munich.

Climate

A continental climate dominates the weather in Munich. Compared to the rest of Germany most of the snow falls in Munich. The average sunshine duration is around two hours per day. Rainfalls normally come only in short intervals and in the winter it can get pretty cold.
