Ludwigsvorstadt-Isarvorstadt
Ludwigsvorstadt-Isarvorstadt
Munich’s second borough is Ludwigsvorstadt-Isarvorstadt. It comprises the districts St. Paul, the hospital district Ludwigvorstadt, the Schlachthof, Am südlichen Friedhof, Dreimühlen, Glockenbach and Gärtnerplatzviertel. Also the Deutsche Museum (German Museum) is part of this central borough.
Despite its central location Ludwigsvorstadt-Isarvorstadt has quite a view landscaped and green areas: along the river Isar, the old graveyard Alter Südlicher Friedhof and the Theresienwiese.
The Glockbach and the Gärtnerplatzviertel are attractive areas within this borough. During the day both areas are excellent for shopping with many small and unusual stores. Once the shops have closed people meet up in the numerous bars, pubs and restaurants or they just sit on the steps of the Gärtnerplatztheater looking down on the beautiful Gärtnerplatz. This part of the city is very popular amongst young people and singles.
Furthermore Munich main station and the Theresienwiese are part of the Ludwigvorstadt, At Theresienwiese where the world’s biggest beer festival “Oktoberfest” takes place each year at the end of September also other festivals such as a big flea market in Mai and the winter festival Toollwood in December (a christmas market with fantastic light animation and festival flair) will be organized.
